In the Belly of the Beast and Other Tales of Cthulhu Wars A Cthulhu Wars Novel eBook Ben Monroe

This is a book based on a game that is based on H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. I went into it not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. It is a much better book than it has any right to be (and no, I am not damning with faint praise).

Set not too long after the end of the world, it follows a small group of some of the few remaining humans as they try to survive in a world gone mad. It's full of suspenseful moments where you have no idea what is going to happen. This is opposed to books that have long-term established characters like James Bond where you *know* the hero is going to survive. Here, all bets are off.

As for being a horror book, it gets pretty damn horrible. Some of the scenes are really disturbing on multiple levels. In places it exceeds Lovecraft's own writing.

For me this was a real page-turner. I read it all in basically one sitting. And I read it during the course of one evening and into the wee hours of the morning, which I recommend if you are a night-owl like me. Kind of like watching The Blair Witch Project projected onto a white sheet strung between two trees out in the middle of a dark forest.

If you are at all a fan of Lovecraftian fiction, you will enjoy this.

In the Belly of the Beast and Other Tales of Cthulhu Wars A Cthulhu Wars Novel eBook Ben Monroe Reviews

got to this through sandy peterson games, enjoyed immensely.
Quite good.
I have been a fan of Horror fiction and H.P.Lovecraft's CTHULHU MYTHOS is a personal favorite of mine.

I also own the game of CTHULHU WARS and find it alot of fun. But I always just viewed the premise in the most general terms...The Old Ones returned...we fought...they won..and now the same Old Ones are now fighting for dominance. Never gave much thought as to the events leading up to that situation.

Now..we have a "personal" experience to relate to about the CTHULHU apocalypse...and it is quite a great read. Dodging the wandering hordes of creatures...and the deranged and twisted humans that worship them...it puts a unique twist on the Post Apocalypse.

I highly recommend this book...especially if you are a fan of Lovecraft.
Ben Monroe's "In the Belly of the Beast" is a fun, exciting journey into terror. From the first sentence, the reader is immediately sucked into a dark, frightening world that will keep them up all night. I very much like Monroe's vivid imagery, poetic style and homage to the great horror fiction writers of years past. His new take on horror fiction is refreshing and engaging. If you want a hauntingly tense page-turner, this book is for you. And if H.P. Lovecraft were alive today, I'm certain he would not be able to put down Monroe's latest work.
This is one of the most addictive page-turners I have read in a very long time. I love horror novels, especially Cthulhu mythos ones, and this one did not disappoint. I had read some of Ben Monroe's short stories, which were also fantastic horror, and was looking forward to this novel for quite some time. It was even better than I had hoped for. If you want to lose a lot of sleep because you don't want to put a book down, then buy this one. The world and characters were believable and immersive, with the many horrors and monstrous gods described in loving detail. Looking forward to more novels from Monroe.
Colorfully written, fast paced, and very entertaining, this book dives into its apocalypse and does not stop. Along the way, the author explores two of the many cults of Lovecraft’s Old Ones who have returned to reclaim this world as their own, as well as following a hapless group of human survivors caught in between them. Low on melodrama but high on evocative imagery, this story kept me engaged and entertained throughout.
has taken place. Humanity is an endangered species. Tale focuses on a isolated survivors who band together. My big issues - few other survivors and most of those appear to belong to dark cults with long histories. Plus, the manifestation location for Cthulhu is a bit strange.
